After the birth of her two children, Elizabeth (Liz) and Barbara (Barbie), she went back to work for Higbee's (later Dillards's) Department Store, eventually becoming a store manager.
Mary Ann and Thomas shared a love of American Art Pottery, and were active in collecting/dealing. Her special favorite was Lenox. In the summers, they also loved driving out to Drum Corps International shows.
Mary Ann was a very private person and notoriously camera shy. She was known for her intelligence and love of reading (especially mysteries).
