Frank L. Shadel, 86, who was the founder F. L. Shadel and Son, widely known Janesville painting and decorating firm in 1908. He retired in 1950 and since that time had done oil paintings as a hobby. He held a show in Janesville in May 1955. Mr. Shadel, long known as a color expert in the decorating profession, opened his first paint store on the Corn Exchange. He was located on East Milwaukee street before moving to the present site at 60 Water St. His son, Stuart Shadel is now the owner of Shadel and Son. The company employs a full staff of painters and has handled major contracts in many parts of Wisconsin and Illinois. Mr. Shadel, who lived in Rock County 60 years, was born in Sun Prairie December 18, 1870, son of Jacob and Sarah De Frend Shadel. He married Ida Packel in Madison December 6, 1894. She died March 18, 1932. Mr. Shadel and Bertha Phelps were married September 2, 1933. For 60 years Mr. Shadel was active in the Seventh-day Adventist Church at Milton Junction. The Milton and Milton Junction Courier August 22, 1957.
