Kim was born in Utica, New York, the daughter of William and Cheryl Simon. She was a junior at Whitesboro High School. She was quiet, pretty and well-liked. She was supposed to meet a group of friends at a football game when she disappeared. A massive search was made, and she was found deceased the following day. Suspect Steven Barnes was arrested. He was convicted and went to prison, although he maintained his innocence. In 2008, The Innocence Project proved through DNA testing that Barnes was not guilty of the crime and he was released. She is survived by her parents; a brother, Todd C. Simon; grandmothers, Ruth Liscumb and Betty Simon; aunts, Debi Liscumb and Denise Liscumb; uncles, Richard Liscumb and Brian Simon; many cousins; and special friend, Rick Gouse. Funeral services were held with the Rev. William Wickham officiating.
Her story was featured on the TV series, "America's Most Wanted."
