Funeral service for Mrs. Emma Lee Wright "Miss Bunie" was held on Saturday, May 19, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Guiding Light Church of God In Christ in Lexington. Pastor James Rodgers officiated the funeral. Interment was in Pilgrim Rest Cemetery.
Emma Lee Wright was born on August 18, 1910 in Starkville, Mississippi. She was the daughter of the late Laura Love and Joseph S. Williams. Her son Thomas Lee (TL), and daughters, Betty and Quencola, preceded her in death. Also, three brothers, Roy Oscar, Arthur, and John preceded her in death as well.
Emma was educated in Starkville, Mississippi Public School System. She attended Beulah Grove Church of God in Christ, now known as Guiding Light Church of God in Christ. She gave her heart to the Lord Jesus Christ at a young age, and served faithfully for many, many years.
Emma Lee and Clancy were married for several years. Clancy preceded her in death in 1981. Emma Lee brought two children to this union from a previous marriage: Tommy Lee (TL) and Betty. Clancy also brought three children to this union from a previous marriage: Zebedee Larry, Rosie Lou Wade, and Booker Tee Wright. Together, they had 11 children: Quencola Walker (preceded her in death), Laura Lee Wright, Joe Henry Wright, Clancy Wright, Jr. (Polly), Wornia Mae Thompson, Christine Wade (Maurice), Minnie Brewer, Mae Francis Green, Roy Wright, Albert Wright, and Mae Linda Landfair.
Emma Lee was a loving mother, grandmother, great-great, and great-great-great grandmother to many family members. She also enjoyed many friends during her life time. She is remembered for her "down home" southern style cooking, her loving and caring touch, spiritual nature and hospitality. She was a midwife and delivered many babies in her own family and in the community where she lived.
Emma departed her life after a long illness on Sunday, May 13, 2007, at the home of her son, Roy Wright, in Detroit, Michigan. Her son Albert, for several years, was dedicated to his loving mother's care during her illness before she moved to Detroit in September 2006. Her children, Roy, Christine (Maurice), Minnie, Mae Linda, and Wornia, also dedicated many hours to care for their precious mother during her illness. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters, Mae Francis Green, Wornia Mae Thompson, Laura Lee Wright, Christine Wade (Maurice), Minnie Brewer, Mae Linda Landfair, Zebedee Larry, and her sons, Booker T. Wright (Ida Sue), Joe Henry Wright, Clancy Jr. Wright (Polly), Albert Wright, Roy Wright, her brother, Rev. David Williams, nieces, Aretha Collier, Bernice Williams,Olivia Hill, nephew, Esau Williams, 77 grandchildren, 116 great-grandchildren, 80 great-great grandchildren, 11 great-great-great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
