Harve Leazer Dies;
In County 86 years
Harve Leazer, 86, one of the oldest native residents of Wayne county, died Oct. 4 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank Morgan, near Sewal.
Miles Harve, son of John and Kathryn Leazer, was born July 31, 1860 in Warsaw, Iowa and got his education and grew to manhood in the same community. He was one of a family of eight children, of whom only three are now living.
On March 17, 1887 he was united in marriage to Almira Liggett, who lived in the same community. They moved to a farm 2 ½ miles south of Sewal and made their home for many years. Later they moved and lived in Colorado for 5 years but came back to their old home south of Sewal where his wife passed away on Jan. 16, 1918. After that he lived alone in his home just at the south edge of Sewal for 12 years but on account of failing health he then made his home with his daughter until the time of his death.
To this union were born two children, Otis who passed away at the age of four months and Carrie who is now Mrs. Frank Morgan.
He was a member of the Methodist Protestant church at Sewal and when the charge was discontinued several years ago he never did move his membership elsewhere. He was a man who loved to read his Bible and derived a great comfort by doing so. "Harve" as he was commonly called, was a loving father and grandfather, an industrious farmer and a splendid neighbor and citizen in his community.
For some time he had been failing in health and about two weeks ago he took worse, and though everything was done for him that was possible to do, he died on Friday, Oct. 4, 1946, his age being 86 years, 2 months, 3 days.
He is survived by his daughter Mrs. Carrie Morgan; two grand children, Forrest and Harvey Morgan; four great-grandchildren, two brothers, John of Texas and Marlon of California and one sister, Mrs. Lola Liggett of Sewal, many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted from the U.B. church at Sewal at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6 by the Rev. Clifford Carter of Chariton. Pall bearers were Hubbard Leach, John Leach, Otis Hogue, Rolla Brown, Don Liggett and Ben Morrison. Flower bearers were Mrs. Pearl Hogue, Mrs. Chloie Brown, Mrs. Bessie Shriver, Mrs. Blanche Brown, Mrs. Gladys Morrison and Mrs. Madge Rogers. Music was furnished by Mrs. Ruth Stephenson and Mrs. Edith Van Fleet with Mrs. Joy Alley at the piano. Burial was at the Richardson Chapel cemetery.
