Hillary BUTT(S) R.S. was born about 1740, came to Georgia by 1762, and had a wife and one child by 1764, and another child by 1765. He settled in St. Matthews Parish in about 1764, where he died in 1781 (according to the Royal Georgia Gazette during British occupation - the new State of Georgia had designated the area as Effingham County in 1777) - during at least 1783-1800, the administratrix of his estate was Mary, the wife of Richard SCRUGGS Sr.

Hillary BUTT was survived by three young daughters:
• Mary BUTTS (born about 1770, married first by 1788, married secondly about 1805, died after 1850), who was the second wife of William Henry WILDER I, "Harry" (1757-1803) - her second husband was William FLAKE (born 1775-1785, died 1825)(mother of Anna WILDER BEALS and William Harry FLAKE),
• Sarah BUTTS (born 1770-1780, married 1795 in Effingham County, died betwen 1830 and 1837), who was the first wife of Henry WHITE (born 1770-1780, remarried about 1837, died 1842-1850)(parents of Christopher Gadson WHITE), and
Esther BUTTS (born 1775, married first by 1797, married secondly 1803 in Bulloch County, died 1855), who was the wife, first of William THORNE, and then became the second wife of Maj. Lewis LANIER R.S. (1756-1839).
