Russell McKee Hickox, 45, of Patterson, died suddenly Friday morning, May 18 of injuries sustained in a tractor-trailer accident in Appling County.
A native of Wayne County, he had lived in Pierce County most of his life. He was a son of Ina Johnson Hickox who died in January. He served a four year enlistment in the regular Army and attained the rank of SP4. He received several medals including the Good Conduct medal, the Parachute Badge and expert badges for both the M-16 and M-60 weapons. He was a truck driver for the Ace Pole Company in Blackshear and attended the Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Robin Thomas Hickox, Patterson; five children, Tiffany Hickox, Fayetteville, N.C., Jared Hickox, U.S. Army in Korea, Kayla Hickox, Stockbridge, Sara Barnes (Barry) and Frank Horne, Patterson; his father, Melvin Hickox, Offerman; five sisters, Glenda (Downey) Herndon, Dixie Union, Kathleen (Marvin) Gill, Offerman, Mary Jane Heath, Jesup, Julia (Clyde) Lawton and Ann (Charles) Scott, Waycross; six brothers, Clayton (Tracey) Hickox, Jacksonville, Fla., Layton (Petra) Hickox, St. Marys, Raymond Hickox and Stevie (Lynn) Hickox, Offerman, Wendell (Marlene) Hickox, Blackshear and J.D. (Leniece) Hickox, Patterson; one grandchild, Lainie Barnes and several other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, from the Pearson-Treadwell Funeral Home Chapel with Robert Johns and Elder Alvin Johnson officiating. Interment followed in the New Home Cemetery near Offerman. Pearson-Treadwell Funeral Home of Blackshear was in charge of arrangements.
