Birth: 1804
Pennsylvania, USA
Death: unknown

Catherine and Andrew Painter may have been married in the late 1820s in Richland County, Ohio. (Those marriage records are no longer extant.)

"Cath." was enumerated in 1850 in the household of Andrew Painter in Springfield Township, Clark County, Ohio. She was age 46—born about 1804—in Pennsylvania. Early census sheets did not indicate (nor prove) any relationship to the head of household, but "on examination Andrew Painter & Katherine Painter" together joined the Sinking Creek Church's Presbyterian congregation in Springfield Township on 25 October 1850. Clearly, the two represented themselves, and were accepted into church membership, as husband and wife.

Catherine died in the early 1850s, probably in Clark County, and may have been buried in the Sinking Creek Cemetery. Andrew Painter alone appeared on the church's 1 January 1855 membership roll.

According to her son John's 1919 death certificate, her maiden name was "Hedgewich." This may be a corruption of Hetrick. Some descendants speculate that she was a daughter of Abraham Hetrick and his wife Sarah Lemon, who had a farm in Section 10, Perry Township, Richland County, Ohio, near the Painter family farm in the township's Section 36. Catherine, like the Hetricks, was born in Pennsylvania.

Other children not linked:
• Nicholas (~1829 – before 1860)
• Rachel (~1840 - before 1860)

24. Andrew Painter, 46, farmer, Va.
25. "Cath." -----, 46, Pa.
26. Nicholas -----, 21, laborer, Ohio.
27. "Jno." -----, 16, laborer, Ohio.
28. Isaac -----, 14, Ohio.
29. Rachel -----, 10, Ohio.
This is the only record of Nicholas, presumably a son.

Presbyterian Session Records of the Sinking Creek Church, Springfield Township, Clark County, Ohio, 1840-66 (Clark County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society).
• 25 Oct 1850 entry: "...received into the communion of the church on examination Andrew Painter & Katharine Painter..."
• 1 Jan 1855 Roll of Members: Andrew Painter (wife not listed). Later, undated entry: "Removed to Illinois. No Letter." ("No letter" indicates that he did not transfer his membership to another Presbyterian church.)

Great-great-great-grandmother of submitter.
