After the war, he returned to films playing character roles in "Nora Prentiss" (1947), "Adventures of Don Juan" (1948), "Convicted" (1950), "Invaders from Mars" (1953), "Sitting Bull" (1954), "Lone Ranger and the Lost City of Gold" (1958) and "The Fastest Guy Alive" (1967). For television he was best remembered for his role as the Sheriff Fred Madden in the TV series "The Big Valley". He also was a regular on "The Lone Ranger", "Alfred Hitchcocks Present", "Rawhide", "The Texan" and "Bonanza".
