MRS. F. SCHROEDER DIES DURING SLEEP
Passes Away While Resting on Her Bed Saturday Afternoon
Mrs. Fred Schroeder departed this life suddenly Saturday afternoon at her home south of town, and was discovered dead by members of her son's family after an hour or more had lapsed. After dinner she retired to her room for a brief rest, but when she failed to reappear, Mrs. Ernest Schroeder entered her room and found her on her bed just as she had reclined to sleep. She had apparently slept peacefully away.
Mrs. Fred Schroeder nee Kirchhoff, was the daughter of Dietrich Kirchhoff and Dorothea Mummelthei. She was born near Siegel in Bremer county January 17, 1872. In infancy she was consecrated to God in baptism. She attended school and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith March 29, 1885, in the Lutheran church at Douglas.
She was united in Marriage with Fred Schroeder August 26, 1894, Pastor Vogelsang officiating. This union was blessed with two sons, George and Ernest. The young couple lived at first in Jefferson township seven years. They then moved to Tripoli and lived there six years; when they moved to the farm south of Sumner. In 1921 they moved to Sumner, but after seven years returned to the farm where she was called by a sudden and unexpected death. She was 61 years, 7 months, and 15 days of age.
Her death is mourned by her husband, her two sons, George and Ernest and families, eight grandchildren, and two sisters and five brothers; Dietrich and Carl Kirchhoff of Tripoli, William, Henry and Herman Kirchhoff of this vicinity, Mrs. Emma Schauer and Mrs. Marie Wilkens of Waverly, and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the St. John's Lutheran church with Rev. C. J. Mardorf officiating. Interment was made in the Lutheran cemetery.
