Edward is the son of Edward and Harriet Copping of Norfolk, England. He immigrated to Canada with his parents as an infant and they made their home in Toronto. Edward married first Emma Evans about 1853 and they had six children, Edward John, William Thomas, George Robert, Marion, Sarah Adeline and Lucy. After Emma's death Edward married 2nd the widow, Mrs. Mary Splint Platt. Edward was Toronto Building Inspector before he retired prior to 1910. In May of 1915 his son George and daughter-in-law Emma were lost in the sinking of the Lusitania. George's body was finally recovered and Edward, at the age of 85, attended his son's funeral at Mount Pleasant.
