Born on a farm near Council Bluffs, Iowa. At age 18 she married John W. Sullivan, an Irish railroad worker. They had 2 children, Harry & Hester. They lived in Algona, Iowa in 1895. In 1900, they were living in Denver for her husband's railroad job. Della's widowed mother Lodema lived with them. By 1920 they were living on Vashon Island, near Seattle, Washington where John was a railroad conductor. In 1930, the retired couple were off the island and living on a farm in Renton, WA. By the time she died, Della and John had been married for 50 years.
