Lena grew up on the farm where she was born in Eden Township, Brown County. The Olsen farm was located about a mile from the Christensen farm. She was the daughter of Jorgen and Elizabeth Olsen.
When they were first married, William and Lena lived in a house across the street from St. Matthew's Church in Evan, Minnesota. Their eldest daughter Henrietta was born in this house. About 1902, William built a house on the southeast end of Evan; Alvin (Bill), Gladys and Harlen (Nip) were born in this house. Bill lived in this house his entire life and the house remained in the family until 1991. William built an identical house next door for Lena's parents when they retired from farming. Gladys inherited that house. She and her husband Julius moved into this Evan house when they retired from farming. That house also remained in the family until 1991.
Mr. and Mrs. William Christensen celebrated their Golden wedding anniversary with a party on July 11, 1948 in Evan, MN.
