Wanda was cremated and her ashes spread on the bluffs overlooking the Columbia River on the Oregon side near the town of Mt. Hood.
Wanda was married to Alvis Paul Gowen and they had five daughters; Betty Louise, Barbara Joyce, Lana Gaye, Judy Marie, & Connie Jo. They moved to Oregon around 1945 and lived their lives around Lebanon area. Wanda died from breast cancer.
(Note from daughter Joyce) If there is any one thing mother taught us it was to be survivors! We had the skills to survive most of life's crisis! We could cook, garden, sew, make repairs and can endless amounts of food. We were all taught a strong work ethic. It was nothing to see mom with hammer in hand tearing out a wall, chopping wood or wringing a chickens neck. You would have thought we lived in the 1800's. She had so many interests you couldn't keep up; from reading trash to philosophy, sewing, crocheting, knitting, building stuff, gardening and raising five daughters. She shot more than one deer and liked to fish and camp. She was strong physically and mentally and kind and unselfish.
Wanda and Alvis "Red" Gowen were divorced for a couple of years and then remarried in 1960.
