Marian C. Holland, 89, of Bickford Cottage, Iowa City, died Mon, May 26, 2003 at mercy, Iowa City following a lengthy illness.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thurs, May 29, 2003 at 10 am at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Iowa City with the Rev James Vrba officating.
Friends may call Wed from 4 - 7 pm at Lensing Funeral Home, Iowa City where the Catholic Daughters of America will recite a rosary at 5:30 pm. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cem in Iowa City.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Mercy Hospital Foundation.
Mrs. Holland was born April 21, 1914 in Cosgrove, Iowa, the daughter of William and Catherine O'Donnell Beecher. She graduated from Cosgrove Hight school and married William 'Newt' Holland at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Cosgrove on Nov 9, 1907.
Marian managed and cooked at the coffee shop at the University of Iowa Psych Hospital for 19 years and then for 6 years at Oakdale Cafeteria. She later worked as a baker at the Iowa City Senior Center before retiring in 1964. She was a lifelong Johnson County resident, a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society and Catholic Daughters of America.
Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn Maher and her husband, Dave, of Salt Lake City, UT and their children, Mark, Mike and Ann; her son James Holland of Chicago and his children Kevin, David and Dan; two great-grandsons, David and Matthew.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother, Paul.
