Kenneth Bradford Keels

WINSTON-SALEM -- Mr. Keels of Winston-Salem passed away on November 4, 2009. He was born on May 26, 1933, the son of Alford Benjamin and Coryne Rogers Keels. He grew up in Dillon, SC and graduated from the University of South Carolina where he was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity. His early career was spent in the textile industry where he worked for Deering Milliken in the United States, Germany and Belgium, and for Duplan Corporation in sales and marketing. Later in life, after earning a general contractor's license, he formed his own remodeling and construction company, worked for the Housing Department of Forsyth County, and, after retirement, served as a consultant for historic preservation projects for the Rural Initiative Project, Inc. Ken was predeceased by his parents and sister, Miriam (Mickie) Bibb. He is survived by his wife, Glenda Brown Keels; brother, Bill Keels and wife Shirley, of Greenville, SC; son Kenneth Bradford Keels, Jr., and wife Nancy of Charlotte; daughter Penny Gift and husband, Jeff, of Durham; step-daughters Stacy Lumpkin of Hickory, and Haffye Sewell of Winston-Salem. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Jarrett Keels and wife Katie, Rachel Keels, Jennifer Gift, Rebecca Gift, Joshua Gift, Caroline Lumpkin and Haffye Lumpkin. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Saturday, November 7, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends at a reception at St. Paul's following the service. Memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
