| Birth: | May 23, 1835 | | Death: | Dec. 26, 1894 |  Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. Enlisted as a Private in the 6th Massachusetts Militia at the outbreak of the Civil War. He then served as a Captain in the 7th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry, participating with the regiment in the late 1862 operations in South Carolina, and being severely wounded at the Battle of Pocotaligo. He recovered sufficiently to be present at the July 1863 Union assault on Fort Wagner, South Carolina, where he was in command of a 10-inch siege mortar. At the May 1864 Battle of Drewry’s Bluff, he was in command of the 7th Connecticut’ skirmish line as they probed the Confederate defenses and induced fierce fighting. He was captured along with his Major and a number of men on the Bermuda Hundred, Virginia on June 2, 1864. After his exchange he was mustered out of the 7th Connecticut, and re-enlisted as Major and Additional Paymaster of Volunteers.
