O.O. Anderson of Watauga, received a telegram from Boston last week announcing the death of his son Earl, of Spanish Influenza at the munition factory in Maine.
Earl Beacher Anderson joined the Navy at Somerset on April 20, 1917 and for some months was stationed at the Naval Training School at Norfolk, Va. He was afterwards transferred to the Battleship Florida and made a number of trips to Europe. He was a second gunmen.
His father later succeeded in securing his discharge from the Navy on account of his age, some months ago contrary to his wishes and he had refused to come home and had been working in different factories.
The Anderson's have been living in Monticello during the school terms for the past several years and some months ago one of Earl's teachers complimented him very highly on his general knowledge of all subjects and especially on his knowledge of the Bible.
Deceased was a member of the Christian Church. His untimely death will be mourned by all who knew him.
