Bertha Hardel was the wife of Emil Hardel. Her parents are unknown . She was my Great Grandma. Grandpa Hardel and her had 2 daughters & one son, Erma Hardel Wagner, who later got married and had no children, Dora Hardel who later married William F. Schultz had two children together & Herbert Hardel who died as a baby shortly after being born in 1909. She was a housewife and she enjoyed weaving floor rugs on her big loom. My mom has a few of them and I was honored to receive one from her. It's being used in special room in our house. I still remember the big loom she had. She & Great Grandpa owned a farm just outside of Spring Lake for many years. They raised quite a few animals and had a large garden. She was a very loving and caring woman. She was a faithful member of The United Brethren Church in Neshkoro Wisconsin which later merged with the United Methodist Church. She was a very religious woman. One could tell that by the way she lived her life. I believe she and Great Grandpa were members there for most of her life. She and her husband Emil lived in Neshkoro for many years after he stopped farming and sold their farm outside of Spring Lake. They were well thought of in Neshkoro. I remember when we'd go to their house to visit, she's always sit in her rocking chair in the living room, talk and twiddle her thumbs. She was a very nervous person. She didn't care much for riding in cars either. She always had cookies for me to eat when I was there. In 1963 or 1964 she started getting very weak. Doctors never found out what was wrong with her. But she didn't live very long after that. She passed away quietly at the Wautoma Hospital, a couple of months short of their 60th wedding anniversary, still having a firm faith in her Lord and her Church. She is buried alongside her husband and baby in the cemetery that's right next to their Church in Neshkoro. I have very few memories, but they are fond ones, of my Great Grandmother.

Cause of Death: Unknown, probably old age.
