"Jonathan Scott Ellis was in his 7th year when his father was lost off Nantucket, and his mother returned with her five little children to her father at Minot, Maine. In 1836 Mr. Ellis bought a farm at Farmington, Maine, and there he lived for the rest of his life. The following is a newspaper account of his death:
"Farmington, Me., March 30, 1895.--Jonathan Scott Ellis died here this afternoon at the age of 101 years and 8 months. "He retained his faculties to a remarkable degree until his death, which was hastened by an accident a few weeks ago. While preparing a razor to shave himself he fell on the floor, injuring himself so that he was confined to his bed. "It is more than 80 years since he had required a physician to attend him."
