Jim was born Feb. 12, 1923, in Aberdeen, S.D. Jim attended schools in the Dakotas and Minnesota. Following the death of his father he moved to Boise where he attended Central Grade School, North Junior High, and Boise High School. Jim excelled in track and basketball and was sought after by schools in many states. After high school he attended Boise Junior College. Jim served his country during World War II, allowing him to truly see the world. Upon returning, two former employers helped him set up businesses, the Show Shop between the Rio and Rialto theaters in downtown Boise, and The Den, a pub near Boise Junior College. After returning from the service he met and married Geraldine (Gerry) Wade. They were married 54 years. Together they had two sons, James Michael (Mike) and J. Patrick (Pat) Garrow.

Jim was the proprietor of the Dry Creek Corral on the corner of Highway 55 and Beacon Light, a "mom and pop" restaurant and convenience store, and location of Garrow Realty. The Corral was a popular meeting place for friends and neighbors for many years. Jim had many hobbies; as a youth he collected Model T Fords, raced motorcycles, and excelled in track and basketball. Jim enjoyed snowmobiling and deep-sea fishing.

Jim is survived by his wife, Gerry; and his son, Pat; and his sister, Adelin "Mickey" Shlax Davis of Wenatchee, Wash.; his brother-in-law, Guy "Wess" Wade, his sister-in-law, Georgia Allred and her husband, Clayton; and his sister-in-law, Gail Johnson and her husband, Dick, and their families. He was preceded in death by his father, James Duncan Garrow; his mother, Lydia Barbknecht Garrow Maus; his beloved stepfather, Arthur O. Maus; and his son, James Michael (Mike) Garrow, who was killed by a drunk driver Jan. 16, 1982, at the age of 31.
