Samuel Leedy loved singing and taught others to sing. It is said he had a wonderful mellow bass voice. He helped his father keep a tavern and hotel at Bellville, Ohio that he took over after the death of his father in 1851. Towards the end of his life he reportedly suffered rapid health and mental deterioration. He had been working outside of the tavern early in the Spring of 1853 when he came down with a fever that he never recovered from.
