Anson, Texas - Reid Maurice Harrell, 84, died Sunday, February 10, 2008, at a local hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2008, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Brown officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, directed by Lawrence - Adams Funeral Home. Family visitation will be Tuesday, February 12, 2008, from 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at Lawrence - Adams Funeral Home, Anson, Texas.
Born August 13, 1923, in Jones County, Swans Chapel Community, Reid was the son of the late Thomas Claude and Thelma (Saunders) Harrell. He attended Swans Chapel and Anson schools. Reid joined the U. S. Army in July of 1943, where he was a member of the Co. D. 70th Division, 275th Infantry Trailblazers of the 8th Army. He was captured during the Battle of the Bulge at Phillipsbourge, Germany and was held prisoner in Stalag 13.
Reid married Billie Kay Fikes-Leonard 1962. Billie preceded him in death November 17, 2000. Reid worked as a consignee and distributor of petroleum products. He was a member of the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Funston.
Survivors include his stepchildren, Freddie and Cindy Leonard; granddaughter, Misti Leonard; one sister, Electa Harrell-Tharp; nieces and nephews, Gail Tharp-Thacker, Gary L. Tharp; Michael, Katherine, Michelle, Kara and Christopher Frew; Steven, Roseann, Anthony and Nicholas Kendall; and a sister-in-law, Nell Fikes-Scarborough.
