|Birth: ||Jul. 7, 1808|
|Death: ||Jun. 1, 1892|
Died, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Kline, on morning of the 1st of June, of old age, Robert Y. Benjamin, in his 84th year. Robert Young Benjamin was born near Worthington, Ohio, on the 7th of July, 1808. February 25, 1826 [sic], he united in marriage to Nancy Groff [sic], and in the spring of 1834 came west, locating in the town of Wayne on what was for many years known as the Benjamin homestead. In three days after his arrival he moved into his newly constructed house, the first erected in the township. His wife died March 11, 1860, leaving seven children - William, Allen, Daniel, Walther, Nathan, George and Elizabeth, wife of John Kline, who still survive. His youngest daughter, Elva, Mrs. Brown, died at Dunlap, Iowa, in the early 60's. He took for his second wife, Mrs. Celestine Stansberry [sic], who died April 2, 1891. Mr. Benjamin was one of the best known men in Wayne and Winfield townships, and probably the best posted in the early history of this portion of the county. For a number of years he was a resident of Turner [West Chicago]. He was a man noted for sterling honesty and integrity. His many virtues and kindly disposition will long retain a place in the hearts in his large circle of friends, as standing on the further shore we wave him a last kind adieu.
