Tuesday p.m., between 2 and 3 o'clock, Miss Ollie Mullinix, the 15 year old daughter of John Mullinix, who lives about a mile south of town, took carbolic acid, the cause or manner is not plain. The supposition is she took it with suicidal intent, as she locked herself in the room for some minutes while she took the drug, only opening the door after a time, informing other children that she would not live long and for them not to leave her.
Her step-mother was out in a field near and her father was not at home at the time, but was not far away. Both were summoned as was also a physician from Callao. Just as her father was nearing the house she walked out on the walk and fell. He carried her in the house and placed her on the bed where she drew her last breaths, dying before the doctor reached the scene.
We have heard no reason advanced for her taking the drug, or if by accident, how it happened. It is a very sad affair.
Miss Ollie was an attendant of the Callao school and we learn of no reason why one so young should have taken her life. Her funeral was held at the residence Wednesday p.m. after which the remains were buried in the old cemetery.
Her father is a respectable citizen of Callao, and she was a granddaughter of the late Judge P. M. Stacy, her own mother being his daughter. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the community in this sad bereavement.
