Leonard Van Otterloo, 95, of Sioux Center died Sunday, December 23, at Sheldon Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon.

A funeral service was Friday at 2 p.m. at Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center with the Rev. Duane Tinklenberg officiating. Interment was in Memory Garden's Cemetery of Sioux Center.

Van Otterloo was born January 28, 1912, to John and Hester (Vander Bok) Van Otterloo in Rock Valley. He was raised at Rock Valley and attended Rock Valley Christian School through the eighth grade.

On June 5, 1941, he married Bernice Bolkema in Rock Valley. The couple resided in Rock Valley for a short time; he worked as a barber. The couple then farmed north of Hull and later north of Boyden for a few years before they moved to a farm by Hospers.

They farmed until 1970, at which time they moved to Sioux Center. While in Sioux Center, he worked for a few years at Van's Poultry Farm.

He was a devout believer in Christ and was very faithful in church attendance. He served as a deacon and elder at Hospers Christian Reformed Church and later served as an elder at Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center.

In his free time he found enjoyment in gardening, spending time with his family and was known for going on long walks around town.

Survivors are his wife of 66 years, Bernice of Sioux Center; son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Arlene Van Otterloo of Hospers; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Joyce Van Otterloo of Hull; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by seven brothers, John, Adam, Herman, Henry, Peter, Melvin and Arend Van Otterloo; and four sisters, Jennie, Agnes and Tena Van Otterloo and Alice Veltkamp. The Van Otterloo Family prefers memorials to Unity Christian High School or The Bible League.
