Patriot Commander-in-Chief of Pilots at the Balize

He is a Revolutionary War patriot and is recognized by the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Sons of the American Revolution.

Transcript from Office of Archives and Records, Archdiocese of New Orleans, St. Louis Cathedral funeral books: Juan Ronquillo, native of St. Augustine, Florida, chief pilot of the mouths of this river in the time of Spanish rule, widower of Graciana Solis, more than 70 years old, buried Feb. 22, 1810.

Plot/Tomb/Vault/Marker:
Response received on 3 Feb 2016 from the Archdiocese of New Orleans regarding inquiry about the location of Juan Ronquillo's gravesite in St. Louis Cemetery #1:

"There are only funeral books before the 1830s, which do not list locations within the cemetery.

The St. Louis Cathedral funeral books lists:

Juan Ronquillo, native of St. Augustine, Florida, chief pilot of the mouths of this river in the time of Spanish rule, widower of Graciana Solis, more than 70 years old, buried Feb. 22, 1810.

Since #2 did not open until 1823, he would be in #1. Unless the plot/tomb/vault and marker has been kept up over the years and is readable, I don't think there is another way to find the grave."

Sincerely,
Dorenda Dupont, Archives staff
