Melanie sang in night clubs until persuaded by a relative, Bob Chisholm, to come to Germany and begin a singing career. The song "Sweet Dreams" got the attention of Frank Farian who later teamed her with Alaskan native, rapper Lane McCray. They began the group "LaBouche." Thornton's voice has been recognized on the pop circuit in Germany and America as well as countries abroad. Before her death the group LaBouche sold 10 million units and achieved gold and platinum awards in over 15 countries. In February 2000 she took her career solo and became an independent artist. She was promoting her latest CD/ALbum "Ready to Fly" while in flight to Zurich at the time of her death. It was due to be released just 2 days after the plane crash. (bio by: Cyndi Long)
