Mr. Donald F. Carty, 74, of 317 Cleveland Avenue, Waynesboro, PA, entered into eternal rest at 4:07 A.M. Wednesday, December 15, 2010 in the Waynesboro Hospital.

He was born on Feruary 14, 1936 in Gettysburg, PA; he was the son of the late Elmer F. and Chloe Marie (Sprenkle) Carty.

Mr. Carty graduated from Waynesboro Senior High School with the class of 1954.

Don served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was stationed at Travis Air Force Base in California for three years.

He and his wife of over 53 years, Mrs. Shirley A. (Willhide) Carty, were married on June 9, 1957 in the former First Evangelical United Brethren Church, presently Faith United Methodist Church of Waynesboro. They moved to the present residence in 1964.

Don worked as an usher at the Arcade Theater, Waynesboro, during his junior and senior years of high school. Then following his discharge from the military, he worked at Stouffer's Texaco of Waynesboro, then Waynesboro Electric from 1962 through 1966. Then prior to retiring in 1992 he worked at Fairchild Space and Defense Manufacturing in Germantown, MD for 26 1/2 years.

He was of the protestant faith.

Mr. Carty was a member Joe Stickell American Legion Post #15 of Waynesboro and the national AARP.

Don was an avid Penn State fan, enjoyed bowling, attending flea markets and yard sales and was an avid collector.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Vicki A. Edwards husband James of Longmont, CO one son, Jeffery F. Carty, wife Laurie of Chambersburg, grandchildren, Heather A. Forberger husband Brian of Waynesboro, Ryan M. Carty and Jenna N. Carty both of Chambersburg, step-grandchildren, Michelle (Edwards) Leisy and J.R. Edwards both of Longmont, CO; great-grandchildren, Wren and Evan Forberger of Waynesboro; step-great-granddaughter, Saskia Leisy of Longmont, CO; one sister, Dorothy (Albright) Gingrich of South Mountain, PA, one brother, Fred D. Carty wife Carol of Cherry Hill, NJ, one aunt, Mildred (Sprenkle) Darr of Orbisonia and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Ann Henrie and one brother, Elmer Eugene Carty.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 18 2010 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad Street, Waynesboro with Rev. Mark R. Shover officiating. Burial will be in Antietam Cemetery, (Price's) near Waynesboro. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Honor Guard of Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post #1599 of Chambersburg.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday and one hour prior to services in the funeral home
