MRS. GEORGE F. CLINGMAN
ON JANUARY 20 many furniture exhibition visitors in Grand Rapids were pained to learn of the death the night before in Chicago of Mrs. Stuarta K. Clingman, wife of George F. Clingman, manager and buyer for the Tobey Furniture Co., Chicago. Mrs. Clingman had been ill but a few weeks, and her illness had been regarded as serious but a few days; thus did her death come as a severe shock to her many friends in the furniture world. She suffered from a complication of heart and kidney troubles. When it was appreciated that the end was not far off, her family was summoned and all were at her bedside when the end came.
Mrs. Clingman was born in Dublin of English parents. She was united in marriage to Mr. Clingman in 1880 and was the mother of seven children, all of whom survive her. Two of her sons have made a distinct mark in the furniture field—the oldest son, James Stuart, designer for the Royal Furniture Co., Grand Rapids, and George F., Jr., designer for the Widdicomb Furniture Company, now in the National army, stationed at Camp Grant, near Rockford. The third son is William Herbert, 13 years old. The four daughters are Mrs. Bessie C. Schofield, Mrs. Louisa Barat, Mrs. Lucy B. Abel and Miss Ruth Clingman.
Mrs. Clingman was a most estimable lady, with qualities that have endeared her to many people, especially in the furniture field, where her husband has been so prominent many years.
