Veteran - Civil War. Co A. 40th Ind.

George Johnson, one of the old and highly respected citizens of Lauramie township, died at this home near Stockwell yesterday morning at 6:20 o'clock. Death was caused by a complication of diseases, from which he had been suffering for about a year. Mr. Johnson was born in the vicinity of Stockwell on July 29, 1842, and his entire life was spent there. He served in Company A, 40th, Indiana Volunteer Infantry during the Civil war with honor. He was a member of the M. E. church of Stockwell and belonged to the G.A.R. A widow and two brothers and three sisters survive. They are: Owen Johnson, of Los Angeles, Ca., Austin Johnson of Otterbein; Mrs. Mary Brew, of Nebraska, and Mrs. J. W. Starkey and Mrs. Carl Wendelborn, of Stockwell. He also leaves two half brothers, John Bankson, of Louisiana, and Albert Bankson, of Otterbein. The funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. W. McKinsey, of Lebanon, will officiate and the interment will be in the Johnson cemetery. Friends to omit flowers
