Mrs. Hellgren died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis. Memorials may be to the Hampton Historical Society or the Hampton Methodist Church.
Marjorie Griffin was born March 16, 1922, in Moline, the daughter of Ralph and Myrtle Nelson Griffin. She had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Wave. She married Harold Hellgren Aug. 16, 1947, in East Moline.
She retired in 1983 from the former AMETEK, Temecula, Calif.
While living in Hampton she was an active member of the Hampton Methodist Church, where she had been a Sunday school teacher, Girl Scout leader and member of the Young Adults Society.
She loved boating and spent many hours traveling the Mississippi River. She enjoyed doing crafts, crossword puzzles and she was a die-hard Cubs fan. She loved dancing to big band and country music.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Harold Hellgren, Silvis; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pearl Tank, Silvis, Ferne and Art Gaumer, Port Byron, Judy and Larry Liedtke, Colona; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Eleanor Moss, Barbara Nielson; brothers, Ralph Griffin Jr., Floyde Griffin.
