Harold Keuning was born on October 4, 1917 near Pella, Iowa to Cornelius and Minnie (Vanden Berg) Keuning. The family lived on a farm south of Pella. Later they moved to the Otley and Cordova neighborhood where they lived for several years. Another move took them back to the farm south of Pella.

Harold received his education at the Pleasant Grove Country School and graduated from the eighth grade.

As a young man, Harold helped his father on the farm and also worked for neighboring farmers. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. In 1936 the family left the farm and moved to Pella where Harold worked various jobs in the community. He worked for Kersbergen Plumbing and Heating and also at the Oak Grove Nursery.

On June 6, 1943 he was united in marriage with Adriana Vander Pol of rural Monroe. To this union their son, Charles, was born on June 5, 1949.

Continuing his work in the plumbing field, Harold started his own business known as Keuning Plumbing and Heating in 1958.

Upon retirement in 1983 Harold and Ada enjoyed traveling to Arizona and California during the month of February. A highlight in their travels was a fall bus trip to Pennsylvania visiting the Amish farming and business communities.

Due to declining health, in January 2004 Harold and Ada moved from their home to Vriendschap Village in Pella where they lived for a few months before moving to Fair Haven.

Harold and Ada were currently living at the West Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center in Knoxville, Iowa, where Harold passed away early Sunday morning, February 8, 2009 at the age of ninety-one.

Harold is survived by his wife, Ada; his son, Charles; two grandsons: Kevin Keuning and his wife, Christine of Western Springs, Illinois and David Keuning of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Preceding him in death are: his parents; his baby sister; his brother-in-law: Harold Vander Pol; and his daughter-in-law, Sandra (Schuring) Keuning.

Harold made confession of faith at Tools Chapel Methodist Church near Monroe, Iowa in 1947. He was currently a member of the Trinity Reformed Church in Pella.

Harold and Ada became proud great-grandparents to Nicole Ann, Mark Brent, and Timothy Jezek Keuning, children of Kevin and Christine Keuning, and Kyler Keuning, son of David Keuning and Cara Cross.

Harold will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, nature, gardening, and his years of working in the plumbing and heating business, being especially loyal to his trade.
