Richard A. Brachel, 97, of Charlevoix died Saturday, April 3 at Boulder Park Terrace in Charlevoix.
Richard was born on April 3, 1913 in Detroit, the son of Anthony and Mary Anna (Kontowski) Brachel. He grew up in Detroit. He served in the United States Army in the 75th Tank Battalion in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during World War II.
Richard worked for Boise Cascade Corporation for 20 year and worked as a metal finisher for 20 years. He came to Charlevoix in 1983. He was a very quiet gentle man who enjoyed woodworking and watching golf. He loved helping his kids.
He is survived by his wife, Florence Brachel of Charlevoix; children, Richard (Rosemarie) Brachel of Charlevoix, Philip Kluczynski of Charlevoix and Paul (Marge) Durak of Rochester; grandchildren, Brian (Kathy) Brachel of Charlevoix, Cheryl (Ray) Babisch of Clinton Township, Kevin (Colette) Brachel of Allen Park, Daniel (Sandy) Brachel of Clinton Township, Brad (Lora) Kluczynski of Brooklyn, Jodi Kluczynski of Brooklyn, Jodi Kluczynski of Benzonia, Danielle (Scott) Russell of Birmingham, Michele (Dion) Spurr of Clinton Township; 12 great-grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; former daughter-in-law, Barbara Kluczynski of Charlevoix; and family friend, Karen Stankevich of Charlevoix. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
