*********************************************************************James M. Jeffers, farmer and stock raiser, section 24, post office
Frazer, was born April 7, 1831, in Clay County, Missouri, and came
to Buchanan County in February, 1839, with his parents, and has since
made this his home. He owns 260 acres of find land, 160 of which is
under cultivation, the remainder being pasture and timber land. His
farm is well stocked, and he has a handsome residence. In 1861, he
moved to Kansas, and remained one year, came back, and again went
there, in 1865, and spent six months. During the late war, he served
three months in the Enrolled Missouri Militia. He has filled the
office of school director, but has never been a political aspirant.
In October, 1853, he was married to Miss Virginia Miller, a native
of this city, born August 28, 1838. They are members of the Cumber-
land Presbyterian Church, in which he holds the position of Elder.
They raised an orphan boy named J. H. Norman, now minister in the
Presbyterian Church, at Stewartsville.
