First missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Samuel died of exposure to harsh weather out-riding a mob from Carthage where his brothers Joseph Smith Jr., Prophet; and Hyrum Smith, Patriarch; were brutally slain. He died just thirty days after his brothers. He is buried with his family in the Smith Family Cemetery.
