| Birth: | Jan. 8, 1830 | | Death: | Aug. 8, 1882 |  Civil War Union Major General. He was the Chief Topographical Engineer of the Union Army of the Potomac at the July 1863 Battle of Gettysburg. He is credited with recognizing the significance of a hill called Little Round Top and in the heat of battle, commandeered troops to sieze and hold it, which became a Union "Fortress" during the battle. He later commanded the II and, subsequently, V Army Corps until the closing days of the Civil War. General Warren's statue stands on Little Round Top today.
