Maurice M. Bridges
Associated with Bridges Lumber in Blacksburg
BLACKSBURG – Maurice Mason Bridges, 90, of 104 Colonial Heights Dr., died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at his home.
A native of Cherokee County, he was the widower of Norene Martin Bridges and son of the late George W. and Frances Bettis Bridges. He was a member of Blacksburg First Baptist Church and was associated with G.W. Bridges Lumber Yard from 1954-1972.
Mr. Bridges served during World War II with the Merchant Marines. He was a Mason and member of Buffalo Lodge 202. A Shriner and member of the Hejaz Temple, he was a member of the Eastern Star-Ruth Chapter 12. He was a past Explorer Scout leader.
Surviving are his children – Beverly B. Camp of Blacksburg, Mason B. Collins of North Myrtle Beach and David J. Bridges of Columbia; three sisters, Grace B. Collins of Lake City, Ruth B. Mann of Springfield, Ill., and Ruby B. Turney of Altometa, Fla.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Bridges was preceded in death by a brother, Edmund H. Bridges, and a sister, Beth B. Byers.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Blacksburg First Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Reid officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Gaffney, with Masonic rites.
Pallbearers will be David Hogue, Wayne Cobb, Sonny Sealy, Phil Wilkerson, Hubert Gault and Frank Thayer.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-8:30 at White Columns-Blacksburg and other times will be at the home.
