Maxine A. Whiteman
Maxine A. Whiteman, 66, of Columbus, died at 10:02 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 1992, at Four Seasons Health Care Center.
Mrs. Whiteman attended Asbury College and graduated from Indiana Central College in 1947. She had been a teacher in the Indianapolis Public School system and also at a private elementary school in Tampa, Fla. She was a member of East Columbus United Methodist Church and had been active with youth groups including Junior Church, Vacation Bible School, UNICEF fund raising and Methodist Youth Fellowship. She and her husband had been lay ministers and teachers at Love Chapel for 20 years.
Graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Garland Brook Cemetery, with the Rev. David H. Lee officiating. Calling will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Myers Funeral Service, Reed and Jewell Chapel.
Memorials may be made to East Columbus United Methodist Church or to Love Chapel through the church.
Mrs. Whiteman was born Oct. 9, 1925, in Columbus, the daughter of Jesse O. and Blanche Goetz Henry. She married Paul J. Whiteman June 6, 1948, in Indianapolis. He died Oct. 8 , 1990.
Survivors include a daughter, Darlene Madhavpeddi of Phoenix, Ariz.; sons, Douglas D. Whiteman of New Castle and Merlin P. Whiteman of Indianapolis; a sister, Lois Henry of Juticalpa, Honduras; brothers, Robert Henry of Columbus and Eugene Henry of Columbia, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and a nephew.
