Orchestra Conductor, Arranger. He escaped Russia after the Revolution in the early 1920s. Soon after his arrival in the United States he began conducting radio concerts, and by 1930 he had his own show, "Andre Kostelanetz Presents". He arranged and recorded music for general audiences, including orchestral versions of songs and Broadway show tunes. His name became synonymous with light classical music. Kostelanetz continued making music well after contemporaries such as Mantovani had retired. His last concert, entitled "A Night in Old Vienna", was on December 31, 1979 in San Francisco at the War Memorial Opera House. (bio by: ditdit)
