Gerald Robert "Bob" Berns the son of Joseph J. and Florence Pearl (Householder) Berns was born March 20, 1925 on a farm near Bladen, Nebraska. Bob departed this life on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at the Grandview Manor in Campbell, Nebraska.

Bob was a lifelong resident of the Bladen community, having attended grammar school at the five star, district 59 in Webster County and graduated from Bladen High School with the of 1942. He briefly attended the University of Nebraska and served with the Unites States Navy during World War II, first at Great Lakes and then was stationed in St. Louis from 1945 to 1946. Bob became a substitute mail carrier in the late 40's and became an active carrier in 1960. He was honored by the rural letter carrier's association in 2002 for 55 years of service. Besides carrying mail, Bob farmed for most of his life. Bob was united in marriage with Geraldine L. Feis on May 28, 1950. This union was blessed with the birth of two sons and a daughter, William (Bill), Robin, and Joann. Sports was a passion for Bob. The story goes that Bob was name for Gerald "Goob" Leonard, a rural route letter carrier out of Inavale, NE, who Bob's dad thought to be one of the best ball player and sportsman in the area. Bob loved all sports, but especially baseball. He kept stats and did newspaper stories on the Bladen High School and Silver Lake High School sports for many, many years. He would attend a Husker game whenever he had the chance and it is said that he once drove all night to St. Louis to see the Cardinals play. He was also a boy scout leader and coached baseball for a number of years in the Bladen area.

Bob is preceded in death by: parents and wife of 56 years Geraldine in 2006.

Left to cherish his memory are: children Bill Berns of Hastings, NE; Robin Berns of Grand Island, NE; Joann Berns of Florence. Maine and a host of relatives and friends.

Burial was in the Plainveiw Cemetery, Bladen, NE.
