Nettie Lou Privett was born August 28, 1863 in Ladonia, Fannin County, Texas to Leander "Lee" Andrew Privett (1832-1896) and Nancy Ann James (1839-1907) of Bedford County, Virginia. Nettie appears in the 1870 Federal U.S. Census for Precinct No. 3, Ladonia, Fannin County, Texas with family (age 7). She married in 1878 in Commerce, Hunt County, Texas to William Marion Abel (1857-1928), son of John Silas Abel (1833-1892) and Sarah Jane Dunn (1835-1896). Nettie died May 18, 1951 and is buried at Admiral Cemetery, Admiral, Callahan County, Texas. Nettie had twelve (12) known children which include: Lou Abel, John Lee Abel, Monroe Abel, Josephine Abel, Edna Abel, Cletus Marin Abel, Elmer Abel, Mance A. Abel, Atlas "Att" T. Abel, Lloyd Abel, Jesse Paul Abel and Vada Abel. Nettie's father, Leander "Lee" Andrew Privett (1832-1896) was a veteran of the Civil War. He served as a Private in Company "I" of the 34th Texas Cavalry. On July 6th, 1861, Lee Privett enlisted at Ladonia, Texas in the 14th Brigade of General S. A. Roberts' Texas State Troops. From this brigade, the 34th Texas Cavalry, also known as the 2nd Texas Partisan Rangers, was organized in 1862 at Greenville, Hunt Co., Texas and then mustered into Confederate service at Tahlequah, Indian Territory. Privett's Company I and Company E were raised in Fannin County while the remainder were raised in Texas counties to the north and northwest.
