D. J. Miller was one of four men who discovered gold in Montana, and were the founders of Helena, Montana.
He had fallen in love with Mary Ann Henry and wanted to marry her, but her father refused saying he couldn't support her as she was accustomed. She agreed to wait for him and he went west looking for gold. He was joined by three other men and they eventually did discover gold - lots of it. He did come back and married Mary Ann (with her father's approval).
They had three children and eventually moved to Waco, Texas for her health. She died there and he pretty much traveled around until he came back and lived with his daughter (Margaret) on Georgia Mountain.
