Discoverer of the radiation electromagnetic, commonly known as X-ray. He studied at the University of Utrecht, and received his degree in Physics at the University of Zurich. He was Professor of Physics at the University of Strasbourg, Dean of the Faculty of Physics at the University of Giessen, and since 1900 he was Professor of Experimental Physics at the University of Munich of Bavaria. During the last years of teaching in that university, he perfected his most important discovery that, in 1901, earned him the first Nobel Prize for Physics. (bio by: Lucy Caldarelli)
