Headstone application indicates he received a Purple Heart during WWI

 

THE CANTON REPOSITORY AND THE CANTON DAILY NEWS; CANTON, OHIO; Sunday, January 6, 1957

 

James S. Wilson, 59, of 1440 Cleveland ave. NW, died Saturday morning at Aultman Hospital, where he had been a patient since Tuesday. Death was due to a heart condition.

A Timken Roller Bearing Co. employee, Mr. Wilson was born in Alexandria, Pa., and came to Canton 30 years ago. He had been a member of the Alexandria Methodist Church. He had served overseas with the Army in World War 1.

He is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Helen Mann of Erie, Pa., and Mrs. C. C. Haywood, Mrs. Mary Kelley and Mrs. Nellie Mitchell, all of Lewistown, Pa., and a number of nieces.

The body was sent from the Reed parlors to the Heller & Baudoux funeral home in Lewistown.

Calling hours there are Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home and burial will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery there.
