PIONEER CITIZEN HEARS SUMMONS
" Uncle Randall " McQuaig Laid to Last Rest at Manor.

The Rev. Randall Jackson McQuaig , 85 , affectionately known throughout South Georgia as ' Uncle Randall ' died suddenly Saturday morning at the residence of his son Orbie L. McQuaig at Manor.

Mr. McQuaig was one of the pioneer residents of South Georgia and a member of one of the most widely known families of this section and had been a minister of the gospel for more than half a century and was one of the outstanding figures in the Congregational Methodist Church.
He had been engaged in farming and naval stores for many years . At one time, about 1896, he operated a store in Manor until it was destroyed by fire. During the more than 50 years of his ministry he never accepted any financial support from the churches he served as pastor.
He organized and chartered a memorial society in 1938 , for the erection of TOMBSTONES and MARKERS on the graves at Booth Cemetery near Manor, one of the oldest cemeteries in this section.

Rev. McQuaig was the only person who could designate the places where many of the older citizens of Ware County were buried. He lived long enough to see the work started, many of the graves being appropriately marked.

Mr. and Mrs. McQuaig gave each of their children, who survived to adulthood and married, a house, land and several head of cattle.
He told a granddaughter Olga McQuaig Smith , that in 1918 he sold $ 1,800 worth of Cotton and $ 1,200 worth of Syrup at $ 1 per Gallon (considerable amount for those times).
He told Olga (age 15) they he started making a living by working in a store owned by his Uncle Joseph McQuaig (one of the oldest settlers of Ware County, Ga).

Survived by his four sons:
Orbie Lonnie McQuaig
Claude S. McQuaig .. both of Manor
Joseph Randall McQuaig of Waycross
Donnie B. McQuaig of Alma
three daughters:
Mrs. Elizabeth Strickland (Robert) of Manor
Mrs. Susie Prevatt (Arthur) of High Springs, Fla.
Mrs. Maude Ethel Henderson (John Earl) of Ocala, Fla.

his brothers:
Iva McQuaig
Steve McQuaig of Bush, La.

The final rites will be held on Tuesday morning at the Booth Cemetery at Manor conducted by the Rev. Lee Sweat and the Rev. M.N. Sumner with several other visiting Minister's saying a few words of moments with the Rev. McQuaig .
W.L. Hinson and Company was in charge of his arrangements.
