| Birth: | Dec. 10, 1870 | | Death: | Mar. 16, 1949 |  US Senator. Despite being totally blind from an accident while a child, he served two separate times in the United States Senate for a total of 20 years. Elected to the United States Senate from Oklahoma upon that State’s admission to the Union, serving from 1907 to 1921, and serving of several important committees during World War I. Defeated for re-election in 1921, he ran again in 1930, and was again elected to the US Senate. He served his second term from 1930 to 1937. Unsuccessful in his bid to be re-elected in 1936, he practiced law in Washington, DC until his death in 1949. Originally interred in Rose Hill Burial Park, he was removed to Fairlawn in July 1949. In 1967 a biography of him was published by Paul D. Travis called “Thomas P. Gore: Blind Senator from Oklahoma”.
