Passed away January 6, 2005. She was the only child of Lucille Baker Kress and Ralph "Red" Kress, a well-known baseball player, coach and mentor from 1929 until his death in 1962. Since 1997, Lila has been a Commissioner on the LA County Commission for Women, appointed by Supervisor Mike Antonovich to represent the Fifth District. She also owned Kress-Morgan & Assoc., a public relations and marketing business located in Arcadia.
Until recently, she was a Special Assignment Editor for "Business Life" and "Senior Living," and over the years was a columnist/journalist for many news and magazine publications, including the Herald Tribune, Star-News, Arcadia Tribune, to name a few, in addition to receiving numerous journalism, public relations and political awards/honors. Lila was past Executive Director of both the Reseda and Westside Chambers of Commerce, and Executive VP of the Hawthorne Chamber of Commerce. She was also a member of numerous advisory boards and professional associations, such as the Los Angeles World Affairs Council, Publicity Club of Los Angeles, National Federation of Press Women, Inc., Soroptimist International of America and the California Republican Party.
Lila leaves behind two daughters, Lisa L. Frazier and son-in-law, David, of Pomona, and Michele A. Schimmer and son-in-law, Jim, of Eugene, Oregon, along with one grandson and three granddaughters. In addition, she leaves behind several "four-legged" furry friends for whom she loved to pet sit and pamper. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Sat., February 26, 2005, at 11:00am, at Forest Lawn Glendale.
