Funeral service was Aug. 17 at Riplinger Funeral Home, Spokane, with the Rev. Jim Barrington officiating, followed by a private burial service at the Wayside Cemetery for longtime area resident Thelma L. Bloom, 89, who passed away on Aug. 13.
Born on Nov. 16, 1920, in Beulah, N.D., she moved with her family to Coeur d' Alene, where her father worked as a lumberjack. They later moved to Ione, Wash., where she completed her childhood years.
After graduating valedictorian at Ione High School in 1938, she moved to Spokane to go to business school.
She met Edward Bloom and they were married in December 1941. They moved to the Bloom family farm in the Montfort area north of Spokane.
Mrs. Bloom was a 4-H leader for a long time. She and her husband started the flea market idea in Spokane in the 1960s. They were active with the Deer Park Fair Association.
She was a long-term member of the Half Moon Women's Club and was one of the first board members of the Montfort School Community Club.
Thelma loved horses, working in her garden, feeding and visiting with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by one son, Earl (Glenda) Bloom of Los Altos, Calif.; three daughters Kathy (Paul) Millick and Joleen Bloom, both of Spokane, and Bonnie (Bill) Pierce of Vancouver, Wash.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Half Moon Women's Club, 2121 W. Monroe, Colbert, WA 99005.
She married Edward Ringvald Bloom 20 Dec 1941 in Spokane, Spokane, Washington.
