Doris H. Mueller Murphy, 1 day shy of 90, passed away Sunday, November 28, 2010 after a long term illness.

She was born November 29, 1920 to German parents, Dietrich & Helen Bues Mueller. She grew up in Nordheim, Texas. She graduated from Southwest Texas State College with her teaching degree in 1943. Doris married James C. Murphy on July 28, 1945, moved to Corpus Christi in 1949 and lived here ever since. Doris began her teaching career at St. John Lutheran Church in 1955. During her tenure there, she had started approximately 600. 1st and 2nd grade students off on the road of life with a solid background for learning and caring about an education. According to one student, he was quoting the Lord's Prayer and his ending was 'And Mrs. Murphy endureth forever.' She transferred to Trinity Lutheran Church upon the closing of St. John's and taught there till she retired in 1989, after nearly 40 years. She had every right to be proud of her achievements in her chosen profession. She may not have always received word of thanks and appreciation for the things she did, but the Lord above has taken note of it and she is now receiving her reward in Heaven. She was an active member of Lutheran Women's Missionary League for 53 years and also Mary Martha's Circle.

She was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters and her husband of 18 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen Sue; son-in-law Woody Cook; granddaughter Tami Sue; and great granddaughter Joey DeAnn, all of Woodbridge, Virginia. Also many nieces and nephews and their families. Especially Lottie Mae Slowe who was always there for her during her illness. There are not enough ways to say Thanks to her adoptive family and neighbors, Janie and Eddie Chavez, and their children, Nina and Eddie. They gave their never ending love and support for many years.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 3, 2010 at Seaside Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 808 Louisiana Pkwy.
